LinkedIn Vs. Facebook Battle of the Professional Networks [INFOGRAPHIC]

LinkedIn Vs. Facebook Battle of the Professional Networks [INFOGRAPHIC] Takeaways: When you think of Facebook, its professional benefits probably arent the first thing that pop to mind, but who said it cant be good for your career, as well as for its social aspect? LinkedIn on the other hand was created with the soul purpose of connecting people on a professional level, but  could it be rivalled by other networks such as Facebook? The release of the new Facebook at Work will certainly keep them on their toes, but where do they stand in comparison with Facebooks primary network? Theres no doubt that Facebook is the bigger of the two with 1.35 billion users, in comparison to LinkedIns 332 million, but that doesnt necessarily give an indication of its value  as a professional network. This infographic by the  brightonsbm.com  gives a direct comparison of the two social media platforms and how they can both be used for work. Takeaways: LinkedIn has gained most of its success from its benefits as a recruitment tool and they make additional profit from their upgraded service called LinkedIn Recruiter, which boasts additional tools and increased access to more profiles than the free  version. Facebook has a huge 25 million business pages, which is over 6x  LinkedIns 4 million. It could be argued, however, that LinkedIn have a stricter policy when it comes to false profiles and are therefore better at  managing duplicate pages; something that you find a lot of on Facebook. The overall click through rates of advertising on the social networks is higher on Facebook with 1.5/1,000 users clicking, in comparison to LinkedIns 1/1,000; however pay-per-click advertising tends to be more successful on  LinkedIn with 15/100 users clicking on it, compared to 12/100 on Facebook. In regards to the social networks being used for recruitment, both platforms displayed their benefits. LinkedIn allows users to showcase their CV and knowledge, which can be very handy for job seekers; however Facebook now also offer apps that you can upload your CV to, levelling the field. Other features the networks  possess are LinkedIns searching facility based on keywords and skills and Facebooks recommendations feature. 10 Apprentice Tips Lessons from Lord Sugar

10 Apprentice Tips Lessons from Lord Sugar Lord Sugar is one of the most successful entrepreneurs of his time, so there are probably a few lessons that we can learn from the businessman who went from working class lad to multi-millionaire tycoon! He may not be the most popular man on the planet, but I think that its fair to say that he has his head screwed on when it comes to business. Having founded the company Amstrad at just 21 years old and received a knighthood, I think thats more than most professionals can say! So what can we learn from the infamous Apprentice host? 1) Not everything can be taught Not everyone has it in them to be a successful entrepreneur, so you can read all the books you like about how to start your own business, but if you dont have an entrepreneurial mind you will struggle. For Alan it was clear that he was destined to run his own company from a young age, having spotted  business ideas since as young as 12 years old and taking on several jobs while he was at school. 2) Start a business in something you know about Dont wake up one morning and decide youre going to start a business in an area that you are vaguely interested in, as you wont have any credibility. You must have experience in the area in order to succeed in it, whether it be from your career or a hobby of yours. Before you launch head first into a business venture, you must also do you homework and research your market thoroughly to ensure your product doesnt already exist! 3) Experience trumps  qualifications Lord Sugar describes himself as a commercial person rather than an academic, so therefore has no regrets about not going to University and doesnt believe it would have made any difference to where he is now. Although theres nothing wrong with wanting to further your education and it can open a lot of doors in your career, Alan is living proof that  you can get by just fine without a degree and sometimes life experience is more valuable. 4) You must take a proactive approach Want something? Go get it! You must be driven and have a hunger to succeed, as this will provide you with the necessary motivation to go to all means necessary to  meet your goals. Know what you want to achieve, make a plan about how you intend on going about it and then stick to it. A level of focus and forward thinking needs to be adopted, so have  a positive attitude and create your own opportunities. 5) Respect is more important than likeability To be a good leader you dont necessarily have the be the most popular person in the office, but you do need to have the respect from your colleagues and business associates. In order to gain respect you must show others respect, stick to your guns and inspire. 6) Everything is open to negotiation Never accept the first offer. Just about everything is negotiable and with a bit of haggling, you will nearly always get a better price than the initial figure. You just need to stick to your guns and negotiate hard. 7) Dont be naive Dont be too quick to trust, especially in the early days of your business. People will try to sell you things that you dont need, which you really cant afford when money is tight and it could even be the breaking point for you business. Dont get ripped off.  All of your budget and time should be used for winning customers in the first few months. 8) Never  give up You have to be prepared for set backs when you enter business. There will  be times when you feel like things arent going exactly to plan, but if you believe in your business, its worth sticking to! Stay focused and take action  to get things going. You cant expect to become an overnight success, so dont try to run before you can walk. True success takes time and hard work. 9) Have a unique selling point and know your product inside out Your product has to stand out on the market or people will just go elsewhere. Be creative and find a unique selling point that you can  market you product based on and if you cant think of a niche, just make sure your product is better than others. Make sure you know your product inside out, so that you are qualified to answer any questions your customers have and can spin your pitch for individuals needs. 10) Hook customers with a great price From experience Lord Sugar has learnt that cutting prices generates sales. So if you start off by offering a product at a lower price, you can reel the customers in and then sell them the benefits of your more advanced and slightly more expensive model.  Alan says that 9 out of 10 will then go to buy more expensive model.

12 Tips to Set Achieve Your Goals in 2018 CareerMetis.com

12 Tips to Set Achieve Your Goals in 2018 â€" CareerMetis.com Photo Credit â€" Pexels.comWhether professional, family or in a hobby â€" we all have goals in life that we want to achieve. This can be the chief item in the company, but also a smaller project, such as a sports program to go through. The question with regard to short and long-term goalsis of course: How do I set my goals correctly and how can I achieve them?1. Set concrete goalsevalIt is important in the goal setting that you formulate as exactly as possible what you want to achieve. So instead of saying, “I want to be happy,” you’d better set a goal, like, “I want to find the right man and a job that fills me.” Only those who know their destination exactly can follow it and achieve it.2. Do not overdo itevalPrioritize your goals and do not put too many at the same time! It’s more effective to focus on a few than dancing at too many weddings simultaneously.3. Think in stagesIt is more motivating to set goals than to embark on the big picture. Anyone who reaches a small m ilestone time and again feels reassured and collects a lot of positive experiences in between. Try splitting your long-term goals into a few small steps.4. Fight the inner moronOf course, this is an important step towards achieving the goals. Because often the first hurdle is the biggest â€" and to leave our comfort zone. Achieving a goal is usually associated with effort. You just have to be prepared to take it on yourself.5. Take habitsevalIf you want to reach your goal, then you have to start rethinking â€" and acting differently than before. Ask yourself: what can I change now in my daily activities to get closer to my goal?6. Focus on your strengthsWhen setting goals, it’s important to focus on what your strengthsand preferences are. Setting the goal of becoming a basketball star with a height of 1.60 meters may be less useful. You can and should think big â€" because nothing is impossible in life. Nevertheless, you should always set goals that are within reach.7. Form positi ve beliefsSelf-confidence is a very important point when it comes to putting his plans into action. Negative beliefs should be changed. Instead of saying to you over and over again “I can never do that”, often say quietly to you: “I can do everything I want.” Of course, this does not have an effect on your performance overnight. But if you incorporate this belief into your everyday life, it will certainly bear fruit!8. Visualize goalsOften it helps to visualize his projects. Means: First think about what your day looks like, if you have reached your goal or your partial goals â€" you can of course also write down your visions. Then maybe draw a small picture or a sketch. One does not say in vain: Have your goals in mind!9. Avoid distractionsevalOf course, if you are constantly dealing with things that have nothing to do with your goals, then you will find them hard to reach. Avoid distractions wherever you can â€" especially on days when you want to deal specifically with yo ur goal. Remember, however, that you should consciously take breaks in between â€" to gather strength.10. Be flexibleYou realize that you cannot reach some of your goals? Then be prepared to modify it a bit. You do not have to completely give up on your goals â€" but perhaps you can only realize a few sub goals.11. Reward yourself for your achievementsYou have a small success listed? Great, then reward yourself for it â€" with a good meal, a gift or a wellness trip. Your motivation will grow â€" and you will achieve more in the end.12. Set new goalsAfter the finish is before the finish! To rest on its laurels for too long after attaining its goals will eventually bring you to a standstill. Crossing a finish line often gives you an extra boost of motivation. So: take new goals â€" and let’s go!Photo Credit â€" ultraupdates.comWhat can one learn from athletes when pursuing a goal?evalAthletes think long term; they formulate intermediate goals and align their training on it. Dividing a goal into partial or intermediate goals with completion dates is important in order to stay tuned, not to lose motivation. As a self-employed person, I do that every year. I think: what do I want to gain in terms of sales and profits, what are my hourly rates, how many new customers do I want to win?Cannot it be frustrating if you do not reach the destination?Clearly, a goal should be realistic and positive, and then it is more likely to be achieved. But most people think too small. We should think big, set goals high. For us women in particular, this is often difficult because we are afraid of failure. We do not believe in ourselves and dare too little. But if you do not make a bigger goal, you have already failed today. You do not even set off and do not come into action. What kind of goal is the most successful?Outcome goals often generate frustration. In sports, someone is a hundredth of a second faster, and you have not reached his goal. Therefore, for me action goals are more effective, where the “How do I achieve the Desired?” the focus is on the way to the goal and the actions are described in more detail. I am also convinced of motto goals. They aim at the inner attitude. An example: An acquaintance travels a lot and is overweight because he fills himself too much in the hotel at the buffet. Since he set his motto “I’m leaving the buffet with a light stomach”, it works much better. In sports, however, I usually work with a combination of results and action goals.

5 Tips to Turn Freelancing Into Full Time Income - CareerAlley

5 Tips to Turn Freelancing Into Full Time Income - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. There may be economic recovery in parts of the U.S., but its not being created by big business. According tp the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 10.1% of total U.S. employment were self-employed. Since 2001 there has been a 14 percent increase in people who have become self-employed, with over 15 million self-employed workers in 2015. You know the saying, If you cant find a job, create one. If youre a creative freelancer who dabbles on nights, weekends and in your spare time just to make some extra money, this can be the time to up your game and make your freelance career your full time career. Turning your part-time freelancing into a full time business can be complicated, but it can be the most satisfying job youll ever have. Planning Being a full time freelancer may seem like a day filled with doing whatever you want whenever you want, but youll actually have to be more disciplined than you ever were working for someone else. If you dont have to punch a clock and theres no one to tell you what to do, whats to stop you from taking the afternoon off to go to the beach? The fact is, if you dont work, you dont make money, so getting organized and working is your only option. Schedule your day like any other work day, with tasks and a schedule/calendar, and keep your focus on the job. Try some tools to help you build and plan (see Trello) your business (see Fizzleand the Pomodoro Technique) to help keep your focus, if your mind tends to wander. Taxes Independent businesses have an entirely different tax structure than employees do, including paying their own social security and Medicaid taxes. Your best bet is to consult an accountant to find out all the details, but basically youll have to set aside money to pay the taxes your employer used to pay on your work. The IRS will accept quarterly tax payments based on your estimated annual income, and a large number of items can be used as income deductions. Bookkeeping The odds are pretty good that youre not an expert business accountant, so keeping track of your income and expenses can be a confusing concept. This is important when it comes to claiming the right income at tax time, knowing when to raise your prices, and figuring out where the money is going. Instead of taking courses in accounting, its much easier to find a program online. Find accounting software that fits in with your knowledge, and use it daily to keep your business on track. There are many options, such as QuickBooks and FreshBooks. Payment The days of getting paid by check for your services is long gone. Todays online payment structure is instant, employing virtual money you may never see. When it comes to online payments, PayPal is the king, available worldwide and accepted without question in almost any business online. If youd like to add variety for your clients, there are a number of alternatives to PayPal that work in the same general way. Most financial institutions offer some version of online payments. Social Media Even if your freelance business is not web based, leveraging social mediais key to any successful business. Setup your own domain/website as a start. Create social media accounts for your business (keep these separate from your personal social media sites) including (but not limited to) LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. Consider advertising on one or more of these platforms and ensure that your profile is clear in terms of the products and services you offer. Communications You will want to create a business email address that is separate from your personal email address and it makes the most sense to leverage the same domain that you use for your website. Your email address should be something that is easy to remember, such as [emailprotected] Your hosting company should have tools for this or consider having Google manage your email accounts. We are always eager to hear from our readers. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding CareerAlley content. Good luck in your search,Joey Google+

Resume Writing Help - Tips on How to Find Cheap Resume Writing Help

Resume Writing Help - Tips on How to Find Cheap Resume Writing HelpThe first and most important advice to be given to those looking for resume writing help is that they should learn to sit up straight when they are presented with a resume. If a person is not standing erect, then he or she will be talking down to the interviewer and that is not something that they want to do. Resume writing help can come in the form of videos or other forms of assistance and this is one way of applying for and receiving such assistance. Other people may have already received the assistance that they need, but for the person who has not gotten help yet, here is a free resume writing help guide. When the writer begins to create a resume, he or she should look at the important information about the job that the person is seeking. This can come in the form of duties that the person must have performed at the company. It may also include experience with which the person has served at the company. Other peop le may simply want to know the salaries that the position that they are seeking pays. There are many different ways of approaching this, but in the end the final selection is up to the person.Writing a resume is just like writing a letter of resume. The only difference is that a resume must be something that the person can give to an employer and the letter must be something that the employer can read and respond to.When it comes to writing a resume, people may want to be provided with various sample resumes that are written for various job positions. While doing this, the person may wish to check to see how many employees received each of the samples.Another thing that people may find helpful is to get a resume from a major job directory online. These directories allow the person to input their information as well as the job openings that are available for the position they are seeking. Those wishing to save money on resume writing help may choose to submit the information to an onl ine directory that will send the person back to him or her with a link to the job. This means that they no longer have to go through the entire process of creating a resume themselves.Another one of the best ideas is to ask someone else to help you with the resume for a reduced fee. In order to do this, the person who is providing the resume writing help must be willing to provide a resume sample that can be used by the person who is looking for resume writing help for a certain price. One last piece of advice is to make sure that you find out as much as you can about the companies that are offering free resume writing help. The best way to determine if a free resume writing help program is worth the time is to see if the person offering this service wants to provide the person with sample resumes.
